Özet

One of the most important tasks that teachers, instructors, mentors and coaches undertake in language classes is to create an environment in which all students can learn and thrive with the strategy of Brain-based Learning. Language teachers have been trying to recognise the importance of applying neuroscience research and theory in learning process. This is very important for structuring teaching and learning. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the views of language teachers over Brain Based Learning for a positive atmosphere and an interactive classroom environment. To obtain necessary data from participants, we asked two open ended questions to the participant teachers: What kind of strategies do you apply for Brain Based Learning and Teaching in the classroom?, and What strategies are more beneficial and practicable in the classroom?. A qualitative research method was used to evaluate and compare the views of language teachers on Brain Based Learning and Teaching in the classroom. The research was carried out with the participation of twenty-seven language teachers in various High Schools in the cities of Erzincan and Ankara. The views of the participants obtained through interviews suggest that their strategies on Brain Based Learning and Teaching include establishing a positive atmosphere in the classroom, using music and positive visual reminders and laughter, creating an interactive environment, integrating strong emotional connections, and being aware of internal and external attention. This paper draws attention to the views and practices of language teachers as a means of increasing teachers' awareness of Brain Based Learning and Teaching in classroom environment.
