Abstract

Cubebenes and related sesquiterpenes, a diverse subclass of terpenes, exhibit remarkable structural complexity and significant pharmacological potential. These naturally occurring compounds, found across various plant species and biological kingdoms, play crucial ecological and medicinal roles. This review presents a compilation of their natural terrestrial and marine sources, biosynthesis, extraction methods, and pharmacological properties, emphasizing their antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer activities. Additionally, a bibliometric assessment, combined with computational tools, uncovers research trends, identifies gaps, and predicts potential therapeutic applications, offering valuable insights for future studies on these versatile natural products.
