Özet

Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is a rare cerebrovascular event. CVT is usually presented with non-focal signs like headache, seizures, confusion, lethargy and sometimes with a focal neurologic deficit. Clinical presentation is variable and may be dramatic. Localized and generalized infections and hormonal changes play important roles in the etiology of CVT. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and cerebral venography are used for diagnosis of CVT. Treatment is anticoagulation. Herein, a case of CVT developed in a 30-year-old pregnant patient with herpes encephalitis and complaints of seizure, confusion and high fever is presented. Diagnosis of herpes encephalitis was made by detection of herpes simplex virus-DNA in cerebrospinal fluid with poly-merase chain reaction. Diagnosis of CVT was made with cerebral MRI and cerebral MRI venography. The patient received antiviral treatment for herpes encephalitis however she could not be administered heparin and warfarin since she was pregnant, and treated with low molecular weight heparin until delivery. Our case is the first reported simultaneous presentation of CVT and herpes encephalitis. © 2012 by Tu̇rki ye Klinikleri.
