People have tried to make sense of the world and to provide concrete explanations for countless natural events from the past to the present. These narratives have been passed down from generation to generation through oral and written literature and have reached the present day. The aim of this article is to make a comparative analysis of the mythological beings such as Sureli and similar in the oral literature of the peoples of the Russian Federation. In the article, the meanings of Sureli and similar images in the cultural life of the Tatar, Russian, Chuvash, Udmurt, Mari and Bashkir cultures are compared, and the forms in which these narratives are present in these cultures and how they affect society are revealed. In addition, the relationships between Sureli and similar mythological beings and today's cultural life are revealed. In this context, the article is designed with the case study model, which is one of the qualitative research methods. The figure of Sureli and similar creatures are a common mythological figure transmitted through daily life, traditions and folkloric life. However, the meaning attributed to this mythological figure has undergone a different transformation in societies under the influence of modern literature and art. Like other legends produced by the people in mythological periods, Sureli is an imaginary mythological being that has been preserved for a long time. It has been concluded that Sureli is a mythological figure that is frequently encountered in the folklore, myths and tales of many peoples living in the Russian Federation and varies according to culture.
