Abstract

The paper presents a taxonomic evaluation on the species Spondylis buprestoides (Linnaeus). All current synonyms are compared to the nominate form and among themselves on the base of their original descriptions. Accordingly, Spondylis sinensis Nonfried, 1892 and Spondylis buprestoides var. zwergi Bodemeyer, 1927 are downgraded and upgraded to subspecies level, and so they are proposed as South-Eastern and SouthCentral subspecies of Spondylis buprestoides (Linnaeus) respectively [Spondylis buprestoides sinensis Nonfried, 1892 stat. nov. and Spondylis buprestoides zwergi Bodemeyer, 1927 stat. nov.]. Also, a key to identification of all subspecies of Spondylis buprestoides (Linnaeus) is provided.
