External clamps are practical tools for strengthening slender beams with low shear strength capacity. The clamps that are utilized at past studies consist of specially produced many high strength parts. The objective of this study is to investigate a new type of external clamp which can be easily and economically implemented on site. For this purpose, five specimens strengthened by the proposed type of external clamps are tested under monotonic loading. It is apparent from the analysis of tests that the use of external clamps in slender beams results in ductile flexural behavior; shear cracks are successfully controlled and further propagation of cracks is prevented. The proposed method also results in an increase in the shear strength capacity of specimens tested. The authors are of the opinion that the proposed method is reliable and can be recommended for application in construction industry.
