The strategic integration of functional macrocycles into porous architectures is a key frontier in the
development of innovative materials for environmental sustainability. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs)
have emerged as versatile platforms for such integrations, however, the utilization of corrole macrocycles as
structural building blocks within COF architectures remains very limited, with only a few pioneering studies
reported in the recent literature1,2. Building upon our previous findings where corrole-based systems
demonstrated high removal efficiency and excellent reusability in the sequestration of heavy metal ions, this
study focuses on the design and precise synthesis of a next-generation corrole-COF material.
We report the synthesis of a novel corrole-based COF via the condensation reaction between an aminofunctionalized
corrole derivative and [2,2′-bipyridine]-5,5′-dicarbaldehyde (BPyDCA). The structural integrity
and long-range order of the framework were rigorously validated through spectroscopic methods and
microscopic analyses, supported by theoretical calculations. Preliminary metal-ion adsorption experiments
conducted with the synthesized corrole-COF material have yielded promising results, demonstrating high
interaction capacity and pronounced selectivity. While the overarching goal of this material design is targeted
towards high capacity environmental remediation, this work highlights the successful construction of the COF
skeleton and its intrinsic structural advantages. The resulting bifunctional framework establishes a robust
foundation for selective metal ion adsorption, expanding the library of innovative porous materials for ecological
protection.
