Özet

This study investigates the dry sliding wear behavior of functionally graded directionally solidified (FDGS) Al-33Cu cast alloy produced via centrifugal casting. The wear properties were evaluated through reciprocating wear tests conducted in the solidification and transverse directions. The microstructures were characterized by optical and scanning electron microscopes, energy-dispersive X-ray, and X-ray diffraction analyses. An anisotropic wear behavior was observed in the samples. The wear properties varied significantly depending on the solidification and transverse directions and the position from the rapidly cooled end region. In solidification direction, the end region shows lower wear volume loss (0.347 mm3) and lower coefficient of friction (COF = 0.319) due to the ultra-fine eutectic lamellas and enriched θ-Al2Cu phase. However, higher volume loss (0.722 mm3) and higher COF (0.363) were observed in top regions. The transverse direction shows much better wear behavior with lower volume loss (0.22 mm3) and lower COF (0.308). However, higher volume loss (0.563 mm3) and higher COF (0.351) were observed in top regions of the transverse direction. The end region in the solidification direction exhibited the best wear performance, with the lowest volume loss (0.347 mm3) and the lowest COF (0.319). In contrast, the top region in the solidification direction showed the poorest wear resistance, with increased volume loss (0.722 mm3) and higher COF (0.363), due to a coarser microstructure and reduced intermetallic strengthening. These results indicate that the wear behavior of FGDS Al-33Cu cast alloy depends on different regions and solidification direction, reflecting the strong influence of microstructural anisotropy and functional grading.
