The purpose of this study is to introduce control techniques of power factor correction (PFC) for electrical and electronics engineering students by modeling and simulation of single-phase PFC converter. In this study, several known current control techniques of single-phase PFC converters are discussed. These control techniques are Average Current Control (ACC), Peak Current Control (PCC), Hysteresis Current Control (HCC) and Boundary Current Control (BCC). The design, control and switching techniques of the bridgeless PFC converter have been carried out using Simulink blocks in MATLAB/Simulink program. Finally, an experimental setup is designed for a bridgeless PFC converter and the results obtained from the experiments are compared with the simulation ones. By this way, a comprehensive understanding of power factor correction control techniques are supplied to electrical and electronics engineering students by simulation and experimental studies. It is expected that, this study will be useful for students and researchers who are interested in studying and researching power factor correction, power quality and control techniques of PFC converters.
