Abstract

Dieffenbachia is a tropical ornamental houseplant. It has ocular, dermal and gastrointestinal toxic effects. A 3-year-old was boy admitted to the emergency department with respiratory distress after he had bitten a dieffenbachia leaf. His symptoms regressed after steroid and antihistaminic therapy. Some ornamental houseplants have toxic effects and may cause serious complications especially in children.
