Özet

Self-efficacy for contraceptive is one of the important determinants of modern contraceptive method use. However, there is no valid and reliable measurement tool in Turkish that evaluates the contraceptive self-efficacy of women in the literature.

Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the validity and reliability of the Contraceptive SelfEfficacy Scale (Contraceptive Self-Efficacy among women in sub-Saharan Africa (CSESSA)) in Turkish culture.

Methods: This study was carried out between May 2022 and December 2022. In the adaptation of the scale, the steps of translation, expert panel and cognitive interview were followed. To evaluate the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Contraceptive Self-Efficacy Scale, 510 women who applied to the primary health care services determined by the researchers were included in the study. Data were collected through the Turkish form of the Contraceptive Self-Efficacy Scale and the descriptive information form. In the evaluation of scale validity, content validity, language validity and construct validity were examined. The reliability of the scale was evaluated with test-retest reliability and internal consistency.

Results:The content validity ratio of this scale, calculated according to the expert panel, ranged between 0.80 and 1.00. Confirmatory factor analysis was tested for the three-factor model in the original scale. It was observed that the scale, consisting of 11 items with three subdimensions, had adequate goodness-of-fit indices such as χ2/df =4,097 RMSEA = 0.078, GFI = 0.950, CFI = 0.954, NFI = 0.940, AGFI=0.913. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was found to be 0.867 for the entire scale. It was found to be 0.842 for the husband/partner communication sub-dimension, 0.810 for the choosing and managing a methodsubdimension, and 0.770 for the provider communication sub-dimension.

Conclusion: The Turkish version of the Contraceptive Self-Efficacy Scale was found to be a valid and reliable measurement tool.
