Abstract

Neurogenic bladder and its complications were the main causes of mortality and morbidity among patients with spinal cord lesions in the past. Recently, major advances in medical management have markedly prolonged survival and improved quality of life for patients with spinal cord injury. However, assessment and treatment of the urinary system in such patients includes different and indispensable components compared to a typical patient with lower urinary tract symptoms. Therefore, a very careful assessment including detailed neurourologic examination and a well-planned management and follow-up strategy is necessary for patients with neurogenic bladder due to spinal cord lesions.
