Burnishing process has been used as a finishing operation to obtain good surface quality. This process has been applied on work piece surface; it brings together some advantages such as increasing hardness, decreasing surface roughness, resistance against material fatigue and abrasion resistance. In this process, the main principal is crushing the surface of the material. For this reason, these crushing mechanics and process parameters (applied forces, feed rates and numbers of passes) have significant roles on material surface roughness and hardness. In this study, three different apparatus have been designed and manufactured in order to perform burnishing process used different parameters (burnishing force, feed rate and number of passes). The effect of these parameters on the material Al-6061 in terms of surface hardness and surface roughness has been investigated. The experimental results obtained with the apparatus used in the study were compared with each other. Best performance in terms of surface roughness and hardness of the experiments were obtained by as called apparatus 1 and used ball as crushing the tip of the apparatus.
