Instead of standard techniques, intelligent ones are
more preferred for motor control applications. Since the most
important factor to execute the control process in the shortest time
without causing any instability issue is the control parameters, this
study presents the optimization of PID parameters for position
control operation of a DC motor. Ant Colony Optimization (ACO)
algorithm, which is one of the most popular techniques, is used in
the proposed control approach. Thanks to the method developed,
while the rise time and the settling time are considerably
shortened, the overshoot percentage is successfully decreased.
