Özet

The aim of this study is to determine which information sources have been used by farmers in agricultural production methods in Turkey and to search what kind of interaction there is between these information sources and farmers socio-economic characteristics. The main material of study has constituted data that have been collected from 3.800 farmers in 28 provinces of 81 provinces in Turkey by face to face interviews taking account of agricultural structure, agricultural land size, geographical distribution, social and economic characteristics that will represent Turkey. The data gathered have been analysed through the 'data mining' technique. The information sources that were used by farmers about their agricultural production methods have been evaluated in two groups, formal and informal. According to the findings; average age of farmers is 49, average land size is 113.6 da and the average number of livestock is 17.72 animal unit. It is found that the regions that farmers live and reside, their education levels, age and the livestock count they own make an impact on the different choice of information sources that farmers use.
