Özet

The purpose of this study is to determine the frequency of psychological problems among first responders assigned to the earthquake region after the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes and to compare it with a similar group not assigned to the earthquake region. In this cross-sectional study, 284 employees who were on duty in the earthquake region and 272 employees who were not on duty in the earthquake region were included. The selected participants did not reside in the 11 provinces affected by the earthquake. A rate of 22.2% of the participants who were assigned during the earthquake had previously been employed in another disaster. A percentage of 91.9% of the participants who were assigned during the earthquake did not receive any mental health support. The prevalence of anxiety, stress and post-traumatic stress disorder in participants who were assigned during the earthquake was higher and statistically significant, compared with participants who were not assigned during the earthquake (p < 0.005).
