The relationship between various familial characteristics and peer bullying of 12-15 years old delinquent and nondelinquent children

Özet

Objective: This study aimed to compare the level of peer bullying in delinquent and non-delinquent children between the ages of twelve to fifteen and to determine the familial factors that may influence their peer bullying levels. Methods: The study sample included 103 juvenile delinquents and 103 non-delinquents children who were of the same age and sex of those in the first group. General Information Questionnaire and Peer Bullying Scala, was used in the study. Two way variance analysis and Scheffe Test were used as statistical methods. Results: The findings of this study indicated that in some dimensions peer bullying scores vary depending on the number of siblings in the family, birth order, the educational status of the mother and father (p<0.01, p<0.05). Conclusions: Proposals for solution have been suggested in accordance with the results obtained in the study. In order to gain the adolescents into society, all judicial procedures should be completed as soon as possible and the correction nits should be able to respond their biological, psychological, educational and social requirements. While these are being arranged, demographic features of this population and their families' needs should be considered. (Anatolian Journal of Psychiatry 2011; 12:76-83)
