Every urban furniture element in urban space is evaluated as functional communication object. These elements, both as visual objects and parts of urban identity, are considered as special design products and are examined regarding their relationship with urban space. Urban furniture can only be acceptable and positive when designed, technically sufficient, correctly related to each other and its surroundings, defining the space and contributing to urban identity by giving right messages and not leading to confusion. This research aims to discuss some criteria about the arrangement of urban furniture on Ankara Atatürk Boulevard from such a perspective. Within this context, urban furniture is classified and problematic areas are defined according to the design and site selection decisions. The meanings of urban furniture on Ankara Atatürk Boulevard for the city and their relation with the city are generated in the context of the identity of Ankara as the comtemporary capital.
