Özet
The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of a systematic teaching design for the polyphonic arrangement of Turkish music melodies, focusing on its application and based on student opinions. It is considered important that the study presents current data on student perspectives in polyphonic arrangements in Turkish music by revealing student ideas based on the implementation, and that it contributes to the development and structuring of courses included in various teaching programs related to polyphonic arrangements in Turkish music. This qualitative study employed a descriptive design, assessed the current situation regarding the subject matter, collected data through semi-structured interview forms administered to the students in the study group, and analysed this data through content analysis. Based on the findings, all students made progress in finding chords for melodies, and the vast majority made progress in connecting chords and developing an understanding of polyphony. The application had a positive impact on students’ ideas about polyphony studies in Turkish music and contributed to collective creativity and critical thinking. It was determined that these studies should be included in teaching programs as either compulsory or elective courses, that the topics covered in the application were found interesting by the students, and that different and useful information was learned regarding the polyphonic arrangement of a melody in a vertical scope. In this context, it is recommended that systematic teaching programs be developed for courses on Turkish music harmonization studies, and that the teaching and content covered in the experimental dimension be applied in relevant courses and studies.
