In this study, the open loop and closed loop behaviors of a pulse-width modulated electro-hydraulic system are investigated experimentally. The position of the load of a system which consists of an electro-hydraulic servovalve, a power cylinder and the load is controlled by using pulse-width modulated inputs to the servovalve. Open-loop and closed-loop responses of the system are obtained for step, ramp and sinusoidal reference inputs. Effect of pulse frequency on the system response is investigated. Results indicate that pulse frequency should be at least 50 times the reference frequency for the specific system used in the experiments.
