ÖZET
Gabriel Marcel, teist varoluşçuluğun Fransa’daki ünlü simalarından biridir. Ona göre
insan, tamamlanmış, son halini almış bir ürün olmayıp, oluş halindeki bir varlıktır. Yani insan
somut bir durumdan bir diğerine geçecek surette daima yolculuk (seyir) halinde olan ‘gezgin bir
varlık’, Marcel’in ifadesiyle bir homo viator’dur. Homo viator, bir umut insandır. Umut, onun
için bir yaşam biçimidir. Umut, insanın dünya içindeki fiziksel seyri açısından olduğu kadar,
kendini gerçekleştirme amacıyla Mutlak Varlığa yönelme sürecindeki metafizik seyri açısından
da büyük önem taşır. Zira umut, kişinin kendini gerçekleştirme yolundaki kararlılığıdır. Mutlak
gerçeklikle doğrudan bütünleşmeyi yani ‘katılımı’ temel alan Marcel felsefesinde kişi, umut
ederek onayladığı ve tüm samimiyetiyle kendisine yöneldiği ya da umutsuzca reddederek
yollarını ayırdığı Varlıkla ilişkisine göre kendi ontolojik anlam ve değerini fark edebilecektir.
Umut, Varlık Sırrına bir katılım biçimi olduğu için o, insan varoluşunun ontolojik derinliğinin
de bir göstergesidir.

The Philosophy Of Gabriel Marcel As A Hope Metaphysics
ABSTRACT
Gabriel Marcel is one of the famous faces of the theist existentialism of French.
According to him, mankind is not a completed and finalized being; it is an existing being. In
other words, mankind is a “travelling existence” that is always on a journey from one concrete
condition to another and according to Marcel’s expression mankind is a homo viator. Homo
viator is a man of hope. Hope is a life style for mankind. Hope is very important for mankind
not only for his physical journey on earth, but also for his metaphysical journey of tending
himself to the Absolute Being intending himself to his own actualization. For, the hope is the
determination of mankind of actualization of him. The person in the philosophy of Marcel that
is based on direct integration with the reality, in other words “the participation”, will be able to
realize his ontological meaning and value according to the relationship with the Absolute Being
he tends or regrets hopelessly. Because hope is a way of participation to the Secret of Being, it
is an indicator of the ontological depth of the human being.
