In this study, electroless film formation of mercury on the surface of metallic aluminium in still condition has been investigated. The order of the reaction has been revealed to be pseudo first order at the first stages, by graphical analysis, Dependences of initial rates and rate constants on the temperature and on the Hg++ concentration have been studied, and the reaction rates and the amounts of deposited Hg have been found to be depended on both of these variables. Salt effect on the deposition rate has also been investigated. The thermodynamic variables of the reaction such as free energy, enthalpy, entropy and energy of activation under different conditions as well as the probability, rate and equilibrium constants have been calculated, The results have been discussed to elucidate the mechanism of the deposition reaction.
