A Review of Theses Prepared with Conversation Analysis Methodology in the Field of Language Education in Turkey
The main purpose of this research is to shed light on the general trend of graduate theses prepared in the field of language education in Turkey using the conversation analysis method. The data set of the research consists of 58 theses published in Turkey between 2004 and 2023. Document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the research. There are 10 categories in which the obtained data are examined. These include the languages of the theses, distribution according to years, departments or divisions in which the theses are prepared, universities where the theses are prepared, participant profiles that create the thesis data, data collection methods of the theses, characteristics of the thesis data, academicians who advise the theses, and the subjects examined in the theses. At the end of the research, it was found that the number of theses prepared in language education with the conversation analysis method has increased in recent years, the participant profile is mainly composed of university students, the thesis data consists mainly of video recordings, and the number of theses on video-based interaction has increased in the last 5 years compared to previous years. Another important finding of this study is that the theses were determined to be prepared especially in the field of English language education and in English, and the use of conversation analysis method in the field of teaching Turkish as a native language and/or a foreign language is less compared to English, but studies in this field have started in recent years.
