Institutionalization of folklore studies in Ankara University, the department of Folklore started with Pertev Naili Boratav in 1938. Folklore studies in the department of folklore progressed and passed many important stages. The first research studies in the department focused on folk literature. Unfortunately, newly founded department closed after ten years from its foundation. Sedat Veyis Ornek who succeeded as the head of the department in 1980 adopted ethnological perspective in the department. When Gurbuz Erginer was the head of the department who was the student of Sedat Veyis Ornek were made some technical innovations, especially audial and visual documentation of fieldworks. Documentary films have been made and photography archieves have been built in the department of Folklore and these documents organized chronologically. In this article, it will be answered that what were the methodological and theoretical changes in the department and which developments effected these changes during the institutionalization process of the department. Beside, it will be also mentioned that what are the role and contributions of Gurbuz Erginer's view and works.
