Objectives To investigate the effect of different hydrofluoric acid (HF) etching durations on the shear bond strength (SBS) of a self-adhesive resin cement (G-CEM One, GC) to a short fiber–reinforced composite CAD/CAM material (SFRC), with emphasis on bond durability after aging. Methods A total of 160 specimens (14×18×3 mm) were prepared from SFRC blocks, embedded in acrylic resin, and standardized using 180- and 320-grit silicon carbide papers. Specimens were randomly assigned to four surface pretreatment groups: airborne-particle abrasion (APA) alone or APA followed by 4.5% HF etching for 30, 60, or 120 s. Metallic cylinders (3×3 mm) were bonded to the treated surfaces using a self-adhesive resin cement (G-cem One, GC) under dry or slightly humid conditions (n=20/group). Specimens were divided into two aging condition (48 h, 370C water storage, n=10 and boiling 16 h, 1000C water, n=10). SBS was measured using a universal testing machine (1 mm/min). Data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Tukey tests (α=0.05). Results Surface pretreatment and aging significantly influenced SBS values (p<0.05). APA and APA + 30 s HF groups showed significantly higher SBS than APA + 60 s and APA + 120 s HF groups. Aging significantly reduced SBS values, particularly in HF-treated groups. A significant interaction between surface pretreatment and aging indicated that the negative effect of prolonged HF etching became more pronounced after aging. Differences between dry and slightly humid conditions were not statistically significant (p=0.767). Conclusions SBS measurements showed that short-term HF etching (30s) did not provide a significant advantage over APA alone. Additionally, prolonged HF etching (60–120 s) adversely affected SBS values under both aging conditions. Increasing HF etching time after APA treatment may compromise the long-term bonding performance of SFRC materials when bonded with G-CEM One self-adhesive resin cement.
