In our country retaining walls are located at the outside of the structure where it contacts to the soil to counteract the effects of the soil pressure. These retaining walls are usually constructed at one side of the structure and over the height of a couple of stories. Therefore, these retaining walls cause intensive irregularities in the structural systems in plane and in the vertical direction. In this study, a parametric study is carried out to investigate the effect of the retaining walls to the torsional irregularity in frame type buildings. At the end of the study, it is observed that although the torsional irregularities taking place in the buildings with basement retaining walls are at important levels, problems related to the design will not be encountered. Economical comparisons are also performed at the end and recommendations are given.
