The efficient airline management including flight scheduling, aircraft scheduling (fleet assignment and aircraft routing) and crew scheduling (crew pairing and assignment) is very critical planning phase for the airline companies. Especially, the recent Covid-19 pandemic proved this once more to the decision makers in the airline industry. The reason is the high costs reported by the institutions such as International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) because of this global “irregular operation” management problem faced by airline companies. Solving flight, aircraft, and crew scheduling problems simultaneously in an integrated way in a very short time can increase the efficiency very much in this kind of irregular processes, to minimize all costs and flight delays/cancellations. In the literature, there are many studies proposing various solution methodologies including different optimization models and heuristic algorithms for different integrated airline scheduling problems. The objective of this study is to propose a comprehensive literature review on solution methodologies for the integrated airline scheduling problems to present a framework that can assist the decision makers about how to approach the indicated airline scheduling problems. It is aimed that the proposed comprehensive literature review will be a beneficial alternative guide for the researchers and decision makers in airline industry.
