Abstract

© 2020. All Rights Reserved. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the learning losses of students in mathematics, literature and English courses who are in the ninth grade of secondary education during the summer vacation period, differ according to their family education status. The sample of the study was composed of 191 ninth grade students. In order to collect data academic achievement tests were applied to the students in May and September 2018 which developed by the researchers. Whether the students have learning losses is determined by using independent samples t-test and whether it differs according to family education status is determined by using one way ANOVA. The results of the study revealed that students had significant loss of learning in mathematics, literature and English courses during their summer vacation. However, the students’ learning losses in literature and English courses differ significantly according to the mother educational status. The results of the study were discussed in the context of suggestions for reducing the summer vacation learning losses of the students.
