Özet

Aim: This cross-sectional study aimed to assess the determinants of the compliance to the physical activity guidelines by university students. Subject and methods: The sample consisted of 1838 students. The data were collected via a questionnaire, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF) and Daily Sitting Time Questionnaire. IBM SPSS 25.0 was used to analyze the data. Logistic regression was used for the data interpretation. Results: The mean age was 21.69±2.28. Of the students, 47.1% lived in a dormitory, 34.5% went to the university on foot. According to the IPAQ-SF scores, 18.2% of the students were inactive. Physical activity levels of the females (OR=0.40 95% CI=0.34-0.50) and those living in dormitories were lower (OR=0.62 95% CI=0.45-0.84). There was found a significant relationship between non-smoking, place of residence and place of having lunch and the reaching the physical activity target of the male students. Conclusion: The results showed that approximately one-out-of-three students were found to reach the moderate-to-vigorous physical activity objective. Early education and counselling activities should be conducted for the students to gain exercise habit.
