Abstract

In this work, Al powders mixed with 2 % C by weight were milled in a high energy horizontal attritor, which had on the average a running speed of 600 rev./ min. The process was performed in a Ar gas tight and tap water cooled attritor for about 1 and 2 hours. The alloy powders were first cold pressed under pressures of 600 and 1200 MPa, and the compacts were then sintered in a furnace purged with Argon gas for about 2-8 hours. To investigate the micro structural features, techniques SEM, XRD and optical microscopy were used.
