Host plant associations are given and updated for all species-group taxa of
Leiopus Audinet-Serville (Cerambycidae: Lamiinae) in Turkey. We have found two new host
plants for the longicorn beetle Leiopus syriacus abieticola Sama & Rapuzzi, 2010 in South
Turkey in the city Kahramanmaraş. The adults emerged from stems of the herbs Viscum
album abietis and Viscum album austriacum (Loranthaceae) where larvae were found. The
diet of Leiopus syriacus abieticola is broader than previously thought and a larger diversity
of host plants can probably enable them to occur in more diverse habitats. On this occasion,
all Turkish species-group taxa of Leiopus Audinet-Serville are firstly reviewed and evaluated
with their body length, adult period, host plants, provincial and regional distribution in
Turkey, and the range in the world. Consequently, the members of Turkish Leiopus AudinetServille on the base of feeding preferences are determined for 13 deciduous plant families
and one coniferous plant family. The most preferred host plant families of them are reported
as Fagaceae, Juglandaceae, Moraceae and Rosaceae respectively. On the other side, Viscum
album L. as host plant has been reported only four longicorn beetle taxa with newly
recorded Leiopus syriacus abieticola Sama & Rapuzzi among the cerambycid taxa known all
over the world up to now. Accordingly, these taxa which are distributed in Turkey each, are
proposed as possible biological control agents for a semi-parasitic herb Viscum album L.,
which causes damage to forests and fruit trees of economic importance in Turkey and in the
world. In addition, provincial and regional distribution patterns in Turkey are given onto a
mapping figure for each taxon with the present new records. Moreover, an identification key
for the taxa of Leiopus Audinet-Serville in Turkey is also provided.
