Özet

The global transition toward sustainable and affordable energy alternatives is imperative due to rising energy demands, diminishing fossil fuel reserves, and increasing environmental concerns. This chapter comprehensively analyzes waste-derived alternative fuels as viable solutions to these challenges. By converting waste materials, such as agricultural residues, used cooking oil, municipal solid waste, industrial by-products, plastic waste, wastewater, and industrial emissions, into valuable energy resources, we address waste management issues while reducing reliance on conventional fossil fuels. The chapter explores the economic viability and commercialization pathways of waste-derived fuels, including biogas, biodiesel, bioethanol, syngas, biohydrogen, pyrolysis oil, algal biofuels, and ammonia fuel. It examines their cost structures, market potential, scalability, technological advancements, and the policy frameworks influencing their adoption. Real-world case studies highlight successful implementations and strategies for overcoming economic barriers, optimizing production processes, and fostering collaborations to accelerate commercialization. Environmental benefits such as reduced greenhouse gas emissions and promoting a circular economy are discussed, alongside socioeconomic advantages such as job creation, energy security, and industry innovation. Integrating advanced technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, is analyzed to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs. By illuminating the challenges and opportunities inherent in bringing these fuels to market, the chapter offers valuable insights for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and researchers. It underscores the critical role of economically viable and environmentally friendly alternative fuels in shaping a resilient and sustainable energy future.
