Development of Language of Philosophy and an Overview to Translation Activities in Turkey ABSTRACT Philosophy aims at obtaining a collective view, complete knowledge as to being, knowledge and values. Philosophy develops within a certain language. The conceptual pattern which is integrated with language constitutes the philosophy itself. Philosophical activity gains value within a cultural integrity and through the language of that particular culture. Therefore, we need to take as basis the cultural native language and the opportunities provided thereby whereas we also need to enjoy, through translation, the wealth of meaning in classical languages and Western languages which Turkish language has always interacted with and which create a positive atmosphere in terms of philosophical thinking because translation is the most important tool that ensures intercultural interaction. New concepts and ideas started to get into our world of culture through translation activities directly related to Westernization movements during the Reformation Period. The threats of brand-new terms that come from the West to settle in our language as they are have resulted in the need to formulate and develop a consistent language of philosophy. In this regard, we in our study, referring to development of philosophical language of our country, we generaly will overview at the translation activities until the 1940’s.
