Abstract

Two steroidal compounds were isolated from the fresh rhizomes of Polygonatum orientale and their structures elucidated as sceptrumgenin 3-O-beta-D-lycotetraoside, akyrogenin 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 --> 3)-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 -->2)]-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 --> 4)-beta-D-galactopyranoside (spiroakyroside), on the basis of physical and chemical investigations.
