The use of smokeless forms of tobacco, such as snuff and chewing tobacco, is growing alarming rates in some countries of the world. The largest group of smokeless tobacco users includes adolescent and young adult males. The use of smokeless tobacco may increase the risk for oral cancer, induce oral mucosal lesions at the side where tobacco is placed, foster nicotine addiction and dependence and contribute to systemic vascular diseases. Because of above-mentioned reasons, this review addresses the issues on smokeless tobacco usage types in the world and Turkey.
