We report an 8-year-old girl presented with abdominal distension clinically mimicking massive ascites. On ultrasound and computed tomography imaging, a huge cystic lesion was observed displacing all retroperitoneal and intraperitoneal organs posteroinferiorly which was diagnosed as omental cyst. This case is presented to emphasize the role of ultrasonography and computed tomography in arriving correct diagnosis and avoiding unnecessary interventional procedures in a child presenting with abdominal distension mimicking ascites. © 2005 Elsevier Ireland Ltd.
