One of the processes most widely used in metal cutting operations is threading. In this study, alternatively TNMG inserts with less cost instead of threading inserts have been investigated in threading operations. External threading operations with medium and large pitches (3-5 mm) were executed on AISI 4340 steel samples a CNC turning centre. In these tests, metric threading inserts and TNMG inserts with 60 degrees nose radius were used. A comparison was done related to finished tooth profiles and flank wears. It was seen that metric inserts wore down faster than TNMG inserts. Besides, thread profiles with pitch of 5 mm made by TNMG inserts were closer to exact profile than finished thread profiles with pitch of 3 mm.
