Özet

We wanted to emphasize the interestingness of the diagnosis in a newborn presenting with left testicular swelling in the neonatal period.

Swelling was observed in the left hemiscrotum of the newborn was born at 37 weeks and was followed up due to left multicystic kidney in the antenatal period. On examination, the right testis was normal, but a 3 cm diameter, hard, smooth-edged, not transluminating

mass was noted in the left hemiscrotum. No testicular tissue separate from the mass was palpated. In ultrasonography had detected a 16x8 mm septated cystic lesion has a 9x4 mm solid component. Cystic dysplasia or mature cystic teratoma were considered in the

differential diagnosis. AFP and hCG were found at normal levels for age. The patient was operated on the postnatal 4th day. In operation no normal testicular tissue was found macroscopically. A 2.5x2 cm cystic lesion was excised totally. No problem was detected in the

1-year follow-up of the patient, whose pathology result was mature cystic teratoma. Testicular torsion, teratoma and other pathologies occurring in the antenatal period should be kept in mind in the differential diagnosis of scrotal masses in the neonatal period. Ultrasonography should be used as the first choice in diagnosis.
