Investigation of the weldability of Al2O3 reinforced Alumix 231 based composite materials produced by powder metallurgy route

Özet
In the present study, weldability of Alumix 231 based composite material reinforced with Al2O3 produced by powder metallurgy route, has been investigated. Various amounts of Al2O3 powders (0-5-10-15% wt) were added to the pre-alloyed Alumix 231 (Al-2.5%Cu - 0.5% Mg -14% Si) powders and then mixed in a three dimensional mixer for 45 min. Powders were compacted and sintered in argon atmosphere at 640 °C for 4 h. Produced parts were welded by Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding at 25 V, 135 A and 14 lt/min parameters in Ar atmosphere. Macro and micro examination together with some mechanical properties of the welded area have been investigated.
