Özet

In 21st century, as a result of developments in science and technology, individuals who are virtually bombarded by messages need to coding systems to be comprehended easily, quickly and without difficulty in their condensed and expedited life. Today visual coding systems have been used prevalently by means of their feature that eliminate communication barriers besides meet this needs of individuals. To be one of this coding systems, graphical symbols are appeared universally in public places and on objects that used frequently in daily life to serve humanity. This situation has created the need to learn formal features of these symbols and their messages. Teaching this symbols which are used prevalently in also Turkey takes place from the first step of formal education. To determine the level of compliance with the current standards and sameness of graphical symbols in Turkey's public places is aimed with this study. Graphical symbols in four public places in Ankara have been examined within the scope of this study that was carried out in Screening Model. According to the findings, most of these symbols don't comply with any standard. It is thought that this study contributes to develop a common model on graphical symbols, eliminate potential negative effects in formal education after this process and prepare a graphical symbol dictionary as a source for children who are intended to gain the ability to understand these symbols correctly.
