Özet

The objective of the present study is to give antimicrobial and Ultraviolet(UV) protective activities to textile surfaces through plant extracts. For this aim, firstly the methanol extract of Salvia verticillata L. subsp. amasiaca (Freyn&Bornm.)Bornm was prepared, and the antibacterial activity of the extract was determined via disc diffusion test. Then, woven fabrics (98% cotton-2% elastane) were coated with the plant extract, and in order to compare the results, the coating was carried out without using extract. The coated fabric samples were examined with antibacterial (against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria) and UV protective activity. The results showed that the fabric samples coated with methanol extract of S. verticillata subsp. amasiaca gained high antibacterial activity and excellent UV protective activity.
