ABSTRACT

Anatomy classes which take place at the beginning of the preclinical courses cause students to feel desperate and anxious and to fear being unsuccessful. On the other hand, medical students today prefer an anatomical education equipped with the newest technology in contrast to conventional anatomical learning techniques. Beyond that, they want to learn how to create anatomical models and animations which appear at the center of the new technologies in anatomical education and create them on their own.

For that purpose, the elective course “3D Anatomical Modeling Workshop” was given two hours a week for 6 months to 29 students consisting of volunteers of the Faculty of Medicine, according to their request. The attendee students modeled anatomical structures which were explained by the lecturer. The best of the models was selected and printed by a 3D printer. Later these models were experienced in a Virtual Reality environment.

The students that attended the 3D Anatomical Modelling Workshop stated that their stress and anxiety levels depending on the anatomy lectures had been positively affected. They also stated that the lecture would positively affect their future professional lives. Based on the research were affected after the workshop in accordance with the before results, no significant relationship was found.

There is not any study concerning the new generation of medical students that are interested in using new technologies to create 3D models and animations, which is at the center of the topic and how this creation will affect those students’ lives and medical education.
