Abstract

In this study the influence of cutting tool coating on the wear of cutting edge while milling of AISI 316 austenitic stainless steel by end-mill cutter was investigated. For this process, three different coated tools and three different cutting speeds (180, 225, 270 m/min) were used and the depth of cut was kept constant. It was observed that the tool coated with TiAlN gave the best wear resistance. The tools coated sequentially with TiN/TiCN/TiN and TiN/TiCN/Al2O3 are also good at wear resistance.
