Özet
This study presents a comparative electrochemical analysis of methanol and sodium borohydride oxidation on carbon-supported nanosilver electrodes in an alkaline environment. The Ag/AC catalyst was synthesized and characterized by XRD, TEM, EDX, and XPS confirming the formation of metallic silver together with surface oxidized species. The electrocatalytic behavior of methanol and sodium borohydride was investigated in 2.0 M KOH by cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, Tafel analysis, and chronoamperometry. Methanol oxidation showed a decrease in anodic peak current density with increasing concentration, whereas sodium borohydride exhibited an increase. Under comparable conditions, sodium borohydride produced approximately three times higher anodic current density and lower charge-transfer resistance (1.8 Ω) than methanol (2.1 Ω). Chronoamperometric measurements also showed a more stable current response for sodium borohydride, with the current density decreasing from 1.87 to 1.08 mA cm−2, compared with 1.70 to 0.62 mA cm−2 for methanol. These results indicate more favorable apparent electrochemical kinetics for sodium borohydride oxidation on Ag/AC.
