Abstract

In the current study, the testes morphology and ultrastructural features in Isophya nervosa Ramme, 1931 (Orthoptera, Tettigoniidae) is described by using stereomicroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Our data show that there is a pair of testes including an average of 6 testicular follicles, a pair of vas deferens and the accessory glands in this species. At the same time, the developmental stages of the sperms are observed in each testicular follicle step by step. According to obtained data, the structure and the morphology of the testes is quite similar to compare with previously studied species in Orthoptera order. However, there are some differences in terms of the structure of testes (with lobed or unlobed) and the number of follicles in comparison of other species which belongs to different orders. Despite this variety and similarity, ultrastructural features of the testes are quite substantial for phylogenetic and taxonomic studies.
