Cleft lip and palate is a multifactorial disease in which genetic and environmental factors are effective. Cleft lip and palate can also be seen with a syndrome. Speech disorders, hearing problems, dental and orthodontic problems are frequently encountered in these patients as well as psychological incompatibilities. Defects are repaired with a multidisciplinary treatment approach. As a result, it is aimed to solve aesthetic and functional problems. Grafting of the alveolar cleft is a motivation that contributes to the oral rehabilitation of individuals with cleft lip and palate. With grafting, oral hygiene is improved by ensuring the integrity of the tissues and an environment is created for unerupted teeth. In this review, the historical process, benefits, timing of treatment, graft materials, success, surgical procedure and complications of alveolar grafting will be discussed.
