Industrial revolutions are in a
close relationship with the technological developments of the era they are in.
The rapid changes in the information and communication technologies made
Industry 4.0 possible. The idea behind Industry 4.0 is to create a social
network where machines use basic internet protocol, collects huge datas and
communicate with each other, called the Internet of Things (IoT) and with
people, called the Internet of People (IoP). Due to globalization of the market
and the high speed of technological change, it is important for businesses to
adapt to these practices in order to survive. When the matter of Turkey's
manufacturing model, 99% of the manufacturing industry in Turkey is constituted
by KOBIs and Micro-scale enterprises comprise 99.4% of them. When we consider
Turkey's success or failure of the Industry 4.0 transition process, we can say
that KOBIs has a big impact. For this reason, a micro-scale company named
Selçuk Plastik, which produces plastic barrels and plastic can with
semi-automatic machines, has been selected in the study. In this study, it was
aimed to investigate the production structure of the micro-scale company, to
adapt it to a fictional Industry 4.0 factory model, to compare the advantages
and disadvantages of both systems and to identify possible difficulties in
transition process. While the face-to-face interview and observation method was
used to analyze the selected business, the literature review method was used to
design the fictional model. As a result, although Industry 4.0 has made a great
transformation in many issues such as cost reduction, production efficiency,
uninterrupted production in standard quality; KOBIs' low technology
infrastructures and low capital seem to be the biggest obstacle to the
transformation process. In the improvement of the low technological
infrastructure of KOBIs, gradual optimization of the enterprise is suggested
instead of a total transformation. For capital, which is seen as another
obstacle, it is thought that the support funds such as KOSGEB will be very
useful for the Industry 4.0 transition process.
