Leaves of Buxus sempervirens of Turkish origin have yielded three new steroidal alkaloids, (+)-sempervirine, (-)-31-acetyl-cyclomicrophylline-A and (-)-benzoylbuxidienine. Two known bases (+)-buxamine-C and (+)-buxabenzamidienine have also been isolated for the first time from this plant. The structures have been determined on the basis of spectroscopic studies. A revised nomenclature system using 'buxane' as the parent skeleton is proposed.
