A new chromium(VI) reagent, 4-benzylpyridinium fluorochromate, was prepared and used for oxidation of various organic substrates under solvent-free conditions. The reagent selectively converts primary benzylic alcohols to their corresponding carbonyl compounds in the presence of primary aliphatic alcohols.
