This study aimed to investigate the effect of the concept map–supported expository teaching strategy on fourth-grade students’ achievement in science course. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group model was employed. The study was conducted during the 2022–2023 academic year with 210 students selected through convenience sampling. In addition, semi-structured interviews were carried out with 12 students from the Experimental Group 1, who were determined using maximum variation sampling. The concept map–supported expository teaching strategy was implemented in Experimental Group 1, the expository teaching strategy in Experimental Group 2, and curriculum-based instruction in the control group. Data were collected using the science achievement test, concept map activity form, written exam papers, and a semi-structured interview form. the findings revealed no significant difference among groups at the remembering level in School 1, whereas both experimental groups outperformed the control group in School 2. At the understanding level, Experimental Group 1 demonstrated significantly higher achievement than the other groups in both schools. No significant differences were observed at the application level. Overall achievement scores favored Experimental Group 1. Additionally, students receiving concept map–supported instruction expressed positive views toward science learning. The findings suggest that this instructional approach offers an effective alternative for implementing the science curriculum and contributes to related literature.
